High Court has today ordered convicted murderer Adhuham Mohamed to cease contacting the family of his victim, taxi driver Gasim Hassan.

The State submitted a case to the High Court for confirmation of the sentence of death penalty issued against Adhuham. In today's hearing in the case, the prosecution said that Adhuham's lawyer has attempted to contact Gasim's family.

The prosecution noted that Gasim's five heirs have informed the court that they have no further wish to communicate with Adhuham, and appealed for no contact from any persons linked to Adhuham.

Presiding Judge Dheebanaaz Fahmy ordered Adhuham to refrain from contacting Gasim's family in any way.

Adhuham is represented by a State-appointed lawyer.

In today's hearing as well, Adhuham maintained his admission of guilt in the murder of Gasim. His lawyer stated that that is all Adhuham wished to say on the matter.

However, Judge Dheebanaaz retorted that this was insufficient. She said that Adhuham must separately respond to each point submitted by the State in the case seeking confirmation of the Criminal Court's sentencing.

Adhuham's lawyer requested for additional time to prepare responses, which the court granted.

Gasim was murdered in 2019. He had been driving his taxi with Adhuham in the backseat, who had stabbed Gasim in the neck in an attempt to rob him.

Adhuham was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court in 2023.

Adhuham did not appeal the sentence even as the appeal window closed. As a result, the prosecution had to submit an appeal for sentence confirmation.

Although Adhuham initially admitted guilt, he later denied the charges in court. However, the Criminal Court found that the evidence submitted and Adhuham's statements were sufficient to find him guilty of intentional homicide.

Adhuham asked for forgiveness from Gasim's heirs during trial. However, all five heirs opted for the death penalty.
