Maldives has announced their intent to run for the UN Human Rights Council once more.
Maldives is to run for the 2028 to 2030 term of the council as a member, with the announcement being made during yesterday's council meeting by Maldives' Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel while he was giving his speech.
Aside from the UN's Security Council, nations compete for membership of the Human Rights Council the most. While Maldives has decided to run for membership this time around, there were three other attempts before this as well.
Maldives has been a member of the council from 2011 to 2013, 2014 to 2016 and from 2023 to 2025.
Maldives has also taken the seat of Vice President of the Human Rights Council in the past.
