The Islamic Ministry of Saudi Arabia has gifted 15 tonnes of dates to the Maldives yesterday.
The dates were handed over in a ceremony held at the Islamic Centre yesterday by the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the Maldives Yahya Hassan Alqahtani and was accepted by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
At the ceremony, Minister Shaheem expressed gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud and the Saudi government for the close relations maintained with the Maldives.
Shaheem also commended Saudi Islamic Minister Dr Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al Alsheikh for his dedicated work.
The minister also recognized the efforts of the Saudi Embassy in Maldives in strengthening Maldives-Saudi ties and extended appreciation.
This year, too, Saudi Arabia will be gifting a total of 50 tonnes of dates to the Maldives. The ministry said that they are working on this with their Saudi counterparts.
