Riffath Abdulla has been appointed as a member of the Elections Commission.
Riffath took oath of office in a ceremony held at the President's Office today. The oath was administered by Supreme Court Judge Mohamed Saleem.
The parliament passed his appointment to the vacant seat on the Elections Commission last week.
Riffath, who serves as a Director at the National Integrity Commission, previously worked as a lawyer on the Elections Commission's legal section.
Some high profile cases he fought for the Elections Commission include a case at the Supreme Court in 2016/2017, concerning the seats of 13 MPs. He also represented the Elections Commission in the 2018 case seeking to void the presidential election.
Currently, the Elections Commission consists of its President Mohamed Zahid, members Abdul Rahman Solah Rasheed, Hassan Zakariyya, and Abdul Haseeb Ismail. Zakariyya was also previously part of the commission's legal team.
