The application process for the first housing project introduced by the current government will end next week, with the Housing Ministry stating that 1,633 individuals have applied as of now.

The "Aailee Boahiyaavahikan" program was introduced on 18th January, with 7,900 flats and a total 15,000 plots spanning 1,250 square feet each to be given.

The flat application deadline is 17th April, with the land application deadline being 4th March, 11:59pm.

As was the case in the previous housing schemes, the current scheme is seeing most people apply for flats.

A media official from the Housing Ministry stated that a total of 5,067 forms have been submitted, with 1,633 plot applications and 3,434 flat applications.

The official also said that the application stage in the scheme for those who have been residing in Male' for 15 years and Male' residents saw 11,304 forms be submitted.

The government has allocated:

  • 4,000 flats for Male' residents
  • 1,500 flats for non residents who have lived in Male' for a period of 15 years
  • 2,400 flats for special categories

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said previously that 25,000 plots will be given at Rasmale', which is in the process of being reclaimed as a solution to housing issues faced in the capital. However, the first round will see 15,000 plots be given away.

In order to find a solution to spouses not being able to apply to the same scheme if either of them has received housing in the Male' region from the ongoing programs, a new program is set to take place. Under the program, if those who received plots under a joint application from the Binveriya Scheme introduced by the previous government agreed to give it up, they will receive separate plots.

As per Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, work is currently being done in drafting the regulations for the new program. He also said the program will be introduced early next month.
