Male' City Council has invited bids to supply environmentally friendly electric buggies for public transport in Vilimale', as it moves to revive the stalled service.
The buggy service was first introduced in April 2023 at a cost of MVR 2.9 million, with 10 buggies procured for the island. Pink Sky Maldives was contracted to operate the service at a monthly cost of MVR 390,000.
However, the service ceased after six months and has remained suspended for the past two years.
The council is now seeking to procure nine electric buggies to resume operations. Bids have been opened for the supply of the vehicles.
Specifications include:
- Four 11-seat buggies
- Three 8-seat buggies
- Two cargo buggies
- Lvtong brand models
- Long battery life
- Male' City Council logo displayed on vehicles
- Guaranteed availability of spare parts for at least one year
Interested bidders are required to attend an information session at the council on the 26th of this month. Bid submission will open on 5 March at 11:30 am.
Only Maldivian companies, partnerships, locally invested entities and business permit holders are eligible to participate.
When first launched, the service included two cargo buggies designed to transport goods and luggage, as well as one vehicle equipped for emergency patient transport. At the time, MTCC was also operating bus services in Vilimale'.
