Garbage being disposed of at the grounds of Hiyaa Towers at Hulhumale' Phase 2 right after it is cleaned has become a major issue.

Pictures of old furniture, washing machines, closets and other items which are thrown out from the flats are being shared on social media.

Usually, the trash is thrown into the empty space at the ground floor of the Hiyaa Towers.

After Housing Development Corporation (HDC) employees clean up the space, the growing issue of garbage being thrown there again has been made apparent.

An HDC official told Mihaaru News that they have highlighted the fact that the disposal of trash has increased as Ramadan approached.

As per HDC's CCTV footage, the official said that they have identified who keeps throwing garbage into the open space, with them having been advised to not repeat the action.

The official stated that the cleaning of such public spaces of the disposed garbage has induced great difficulty, with appeals for individual responsibility to be fulfilled and for trash to not be thrown into common areas.

The issue of large mounds of garbage being left on the streets by households sees a rise during Ramadan each year.

As there was an increase of garbage being disposed of at the bottom of the towers with the increase of people moving into the Fahi Flats at Hulhumale' Phase 2, Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has begun identifying such individuals.
