Stelco has installed a new 800 kW engine on Gulhi in Kaafu Atoll, the company announced.
The addition increases the island’s total power generation capacity to 1,904 kW, ahead of this year’s peak season.
During a visit to the island last year, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu highlighted that the upgrade would improve electricity supply for Gulhi, a key local tourism hub.
The project follows the government’s recent land reclamation initiative, which added 10.5 hectares to the island and was completed in November last year.
Gulhi is home to 814 residents and hosts 15 guest houses.
