Handy Water says it is working to identify the cause of contamination found in their bottles, after the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) advised the public to avoid consuming the product.
The MFDA on Wednesday warned consumers against using 330ml, 550ml and one-litre glass bottles produced by the Handy Water bottling plant, after laboratory tests found that the water did not meet World Health Organization (WHO) drinking water standards.
The authority has asked the public not to consume Handy Water bottled products until further notice.
In a statement issued yesterday, Handy Industries which bottles and seals Handy Water said the affected products have been removed from the market and corrective measures have been taken.
“The MFDA has tested and found defects in 007 batches, 006 batches, 0026 batches of 500ml, 009 batches of 1,000ml and 0011 batches of Handy Water. Without delay, the bottles have been recalled by the company,” the statement said.
The company added that none of the bottles from the identified batches remain available on the market.
