President pledges to further strengthen ties with Bangladesh

After attending the oath-taking ceremony of Bangladesh's Prime Minister and new government, the President had a meeting with the newly elected Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he will work to enhance relations between Maldives and Bangladesh. 

After attending the oath-taking ceremony of Bangladesh's Prime Minister and new government, the President had a meeting with the newly elected Prime Minister of Bangladesh. 

In a post on X, President Muizzu shared that the meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had been fruitful. He extended his best wishes to the Prime Minister and the new government of Bangladesh. 

President Muizzu asserted his commitment to maintaining the close ties between the two countries. 

Prime Minister Rahman expressed his appreciation for President Muizzu attending the oath-taking ceremony. 

Discussions between the two leaders centred on a wide range of areas for mutual cooperation, such as trade and investment, health, environment, education and air connectivity, the President's Office said. 

This is President Muizzu's first official visit to Bangladesh. Diplomatic relations between Maldives and Bangladesh were established on September 22, 1978.
