As domestic travel has begun at the previous international terminal (Terminal 2) today, the traffic flow at Velana International Airport (VIA) has seen changes.

As per VIA's announcement, the airport's domestic operations have been moved to Terminal 2 and so, changes have been made to the traffic flow.

One of the biggest changes brought to the flow of traffic at the airport is for passengers who are arriving at the domestic terminal to head to the taxi queue at the new terminal. Previously, domestic passengers had to queue at the airport harbor in order to get a taxi.

Traffic flow changes

  • All taxis and private vehicles transporting passengers departing on domestic flights must drop them off at the front of the former International Terminal (Terminal 2).
  • Following this change, dropping off passengers at the previous domestic area is strictly prohibited.
  • Passengers arriving on domestic flights who require taxi services should use the designated taxi queue located near Terminal 1.
  • There will be no charges to the airport bus routes as a result of these changes.

As domestic flights are to begin at Terminal 2, MACL has made the necessary changes and repaired the terminal in its entirety. Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef will inaugurate the terminal in an official ceremony today.

VIA's new terminal, Terminal 1, was opened on 26th July 2025, with all flights from international airlines being transferred to the new terminal by the end of 2025.

With domestic flights having been moved to Terminal 2, the previous domestic terminal is set to be closed.
