Islamic Ministry signs agreement with Island Aviation

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs signed an agreement with Island Aviation Services Limited yesterday, where the agreement stipulates providing assistance for matters pertaining to Hajj and Umrah, along with other industries.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs signed an agreement with Island Aviation Services Limited yesterday, where the agreement stipulates providing assistance for matters pertaining to Hajj and Umrah, along with other industries.

The ministry said that the signing ceremony was held at the Islamic Center, with Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed signing on behalf of the ministry. Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas signed on behalf of Island Aviation.

The purpose of the agreement

  • To provide assistance regarding Hajj and Umrah matters, along with other industries as well
  • Assuring aviation services that are easy and trustworthy for Maldivian pilgrims leaving for Hajj and Umrah
  • Increase flights between Male' and Jeddah
  • Provide convenient services for pilgrims traveling to Hajj and Umrah

The ministry said that the agreement includes providing training regarding faith to employees of Maldivian Airlines and to have full cooperation on the side of Maldivian in activities such as Hajj and Umrah conferences that are held by the ministry.

Maldivian began flights to Saudi Arabia for the purposes of pilgrimage after a hiatus that lasted some years. 500 pilgrims flew to Saudi Arabia via Maldivian for pilgrimage.

Managing Director of the Hajj Corporation Mohamed Shakeel has said previously that with Maldivian now providing flights to Saudi Arabia for pilgrims, a sum of MVR 3.4 million can be saved in Hajj expenses. He also said that work will be done in the future to have 100 percent of the passengers be pilgrims who utilize Maldivian Airlines in traveling for their pilgrimage.
