President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that outstanding fines are to be waived for residents of Male' Hiyaa and Sinamale' flats, with a special allowance to be granted.

The decision was announced in a meeting held yesterday between the President and residents of these flats at Muleeaage, the President's Office said.

At the meeting, residents shared concerns regarding outstanding rent and fines, as well as the current living conditions at the flats with the President.

President's response

After listening to residents' concerns, the President decided:

  • to grant a special allowance to residents of Sinamale' 1, 2, 3 and 4, and Male' Hiyaa 1 and 2.
  • to waive all pending fines
  • to grant MVR 100,000 to families residing in these flats in consideration of failure to address structural issues and deterioration of the buildings
  • For outstanding fines above MVR 100,000, payments are to be capped at MVR 100,000
  • If the amount is below MVR 100,000, it will be fully waived, with the difference deposited in to the resident's account
  • Residents who have already completed full payment for their flats will receive MVR 100,000 directly into their accounts
