An expat working illegally in the Maldives and conducting a vape business has been arrested and handed over to Immigration.
Police stated that during an operation conducted last Thursday by Galolhu Police Investigation in collaboration with Response and Patrol, a 34-year-old Bangladeshi national named Chaion was taken into custody and handed over to Immigration.
Police also stated that when he was taken into custody and his residence was searched, 959 NanoStix, 34 flavors, and 11 disposable sticks were found.
Police are currently investigating the case. As part of the measures being taken by the government to control tobacco in the Maldives, the use, sale, and trade of vapes have been prohibited.
Furthermore, the minimum age for buying and selling tobacco in the Maldives has been set at 21 years.
If devices used for vaping and products prepared for that purpose are imported into the Maldives, a fine of MVR 50,000 will be imposed, along with a fine of MVR 10,000 for every electronic cigarette or vape imported.
