Former Fenaka Corporation Managing Director Ahmed Saeed, who is serving a prison sentence for abuse of official position, has been temporarily transferred to house arrest.

Maldives Correctional Service Spokesperson Aminath Yusreen said that Saeed was shifted to house arrest yesterday in consideration of his health status.

Saeed has raised concerns about his health condition previously in court as well. He said then that he is under treatment for a cardiac condition.

Saeed is currently serving a four year prison sentence after being convicted of issuing funds to Blazon Inc. for work undertaken without ascertaining if the work agreed between the company and Fenaka had been completed.

Saeed is charged in a separate case as well, which concerns allegations of corruption involved in the purchase of an ice plant built by Kaizan Investment in L. Maamendhoo.

The case is currently being heard at the Criminal Court. Saeed has denied the charges raised against him. He has also appealed his existing conviction at the High Court.
