Police have arrested an individual on charges of child grooming and sexual abuse.
Fathimath Reema, 25, was arrested in relation to this case. Although her name and photo were released, Police withheld her address and other details.
Police said that Reema had been arrested on December 29 through an operation carried out by the Family and Child Protection and Crime Intelligence units.
Her remand in custody is set to expire on February 28.
The victim of grooming, exploitation and child abuse in this case is a 15 year old Maldivian boy.
While Police are continuing investigations into this case, they asserted that the service places high priority on addressing cases of child exploitation in gang and drug related crimes, child sexual abuse and grooming.
Police assured that they will continue to work with relevant authorities to ensure that the harshest legal action is taken against offenders in such cases.
