An ambulance which responded to the scene of a dangerous accident in Hithadhoo, Addu last night itself ran into an accident while transferring the victims to hospital.
Police initially received reports of an accident at 9:30pm where two motorcycles collided on the intersection of Daisy Magu and Elhe Didi Magu in Hithadhoo. This accident left all four people traveling on the two motorcycles injured, although specifics of the injuries have not been disclosed. The four are now undergoing treatment in hospital, according to Police.
Police further revealed that both motorcycles had been driven by people who did not hold licenses for the vehicle category.
The attending ambulance then got into an accident while it was carrying the victims to the Addu Equatorial Hospital.
The ambulance crashed into a car which turned on to Hithadhoo Bodu Magu, with reports of the accident reaching Police at 10pm. No persons were injured in this accident.
Police said that the car involved in the accident has now been towed, and they are pursuing an investigation.
It has been reported that this accident occurred when the car turned onto the road suddenly at speed while the ambulance had been rushing to reach the hospital. Both the car and ambulance sustained heavy damage in the accident.
