Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare has announced that a temporary market is to be opened at the premises in the North Harbour which previously housed a cafe'.

The ministry's initiative aims to make agricultural products from island farmers more readily available to the public during Ramadan.

The ministry said that produce from seven islands will be sold at this market. Goods at the market will be sourced from 10 agricultural farms which are certified by the Maldives Good Agricultural Practices (MGAP), they stated.

The market is set to open its doors from Tuesday onwards.

According to the ministry, the market will exclusively feature Maldivian-grown produce, and local vendors will be manning the stalls as well.

As per the calendar, Ramadan this year is set to begin on February 18, Wednesday.
