Five suffer burns due to vessel fire

While the entire vessel caught fire, the police said that there have been five people who suffered burn injuries. Two of them are Maldivians and the other three are expatriates, with the police stating they have been brought to Male' for treatment.

A fishing vessel outside of Kurumba Maldives has caught fire and is currently ablaze.

While the entire vessel caught fire, the police said that there have been five people who suffered burn injuries. Two of them are Maldivians and the other three are expatriates, with the police stating they have been brought to Male' for treatment.

There are currently no details regarding the extent of their injuries.

MNDF has confirmed that the vessel is a fishing vessel with 15 people on board.

As per the message that was shared with the media by the police, there are 14 people on the vessel, with them having received the incident report at 2:54pm.

While the fire had originated from the engine, it has now spread to the entirety of the vessel.

A Coast Guard vessel has put the fire out but the fishing vessel still has smoke emanating from it. 

It is unclear as to why the vessel caught fire as of yet.
