Public assistance is being sought to identify four blood donors of AB- blood who are willing to travel from Male' to HDh. Kulhudhuffushi. 

The blood is needed for a patient receiving treatment for dengue at the HDh. Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital. They stated that despite appealing to five separate atolls, they have been unable to find enough AB- donors. 

The patient is a 43 year old from HDh. Nolhivaranfaru. 

The patient's sibling told Mihaaru News that the family has tried to find a donor from HA atoll to R atoll. Through these efforts, blood donations have been received from five individuals from Dhihdhoo, Hanimaadhoo, Nolhivaram and Kulhudhuffushi. 

"We have called HA, HDh, Sh, N and R atolls to see if there are any other available donors there. We called Police, MNDF, the council and friends."

Last night, one donor was taken from Male' to Kulhudhuffushi. Tickets for the donor was arranged by the patient's family. The family, however, said that it is difficult at this time to obtain tickets, and appealed for assistance. Donors from Dhihdhoo and Hanimaadhoo had gone on their own expense, the sibling said. 

"An MNDF officer came to Kulhudhuffushi last night and donated blood," they said.

The patient is still in need of four more donors. The patient's sibling said that although blood transfusion is not immediately needed, the hospital has asked them to keep four more donors confirmed. They said that as sourcing donors for this blood group is challenging, they had shared an appeal on social media in order to confirm donors ahead. 

Tickets and other expenses for the donors will be borne by the patient's family, they said. A social media post by the family asks for willing donors to contact them on 7794470 or 9637755.

Maldives Blood Service has also recently announced low supply of blood, and appealed for volunteer donors even in the Male' area.
