Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has ordered the owner of an Amaan Udhares flat to remove tenants from the flat within 10 days as it has been unlawfully leased out as labour quarters for expatriates. FDC warned that non-compliance would lead to seizure of the flat.

FDC Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel told Mihaaru News that the flat's owner has been fined MVR 50,000 for unlawfully leasing his social housing unit. He added that if tenants are not removed within 10 days, FDC will seize the flat, void the agreement, and forward it to the ministry to be reassigned to new recipients.

Hamdhan stressed that the flats were built through hefty loans to provide housing for those in need, and said using them as private real estate ventures is unjust to those truly in need.

Hamdhan asserted that FDC will monitor the flats, and take appropriate action against those renting out units.

Leasing these flats are prohibited under the agreements signed between the recipients and FDC. The agreement further states that doing so qualifies as a reason for seizure of the flat.

Soon after FDC began handing over flats to recipients, several units were advertised for rent at inflated prices. At the time, FDC cautioned that such flats would be reclaimed.
