Asphalt has been laid on the stretch of Boduthakurufaanu Magu between the Fish Market and the North Harbour under phase two of the road's development.
The redevelopment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu has been contracted to MTCC by the government.
Work on expanding the road began in August last year, with the first phase reaching completion in December last year.
The first phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment widened the stretch from Republic Square to the Fish Market to four lanes by extending the seawall, and had asphalt laid.
After the first phase was completed in December, MTCC commenced work on the second phase within the same month.

MTCC began laying asphalt last night, with the work reaching completion today. Now, the seawall is being constructed.
The project has an allocation of MVR 144 million from the State budget, and is planned for completion within 455 days.
Construction Ministry previously announced that the phase 2 would be completed ahead of Ramadan, by February 13. Ramadan this year is set to commence on February 18, as per the calendar.
MTCC has said that expansion of the road will pose convenience to both motorists and pedestrians through easing transport at the area which sees heavy traffic congestion, especially during Ramadan.
