Germany honours President Muizzu with ceremonial welcome

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, currently on an official visit to Germany, received a ceremonial welcome yesterday. 

The ceremony was held at Schloss Bellevue, the official residence of the President of Germany.

According to the President's Office, the official visit was made on invitation from German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. President Muizzu was received by his German counterpart.

The two presidents inspected the Guard of Honour, followed by the introduction of the visiting Maldives delegation and German officials. 

President Muizzu also signed the Visitors' Book at Schloss Bellevue, after which an official photo was taken with the German President,  the President's Office stated. 

The visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations being established between Maldives and Germany.

Yesterday, President Muizzu also attended the Maldives-Germany Business Roundtable in Berlin, Germany. 

He was received by Dr Volker Treier, Head of Foreign Trade and Member of the Executive Board of the German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) and Mr Gunther Mull, CEO of DERMALOG Identification Systems GmbH, the President's Office said. 

Addressing the gathering, President Muizzu outlined Vision 2040 as a roadmap for economic strength, institutional modernization, and sustainable growth. He highlighted fiscal discipline, rising reserves, and growing investor confidence, with Google investing in Maldives' digital connectivity. 

The President also emphasized energy transition projects like Solar City, tourism initiatives including Visit Maldives Year 2027, and opportunities in healthcare and finance. 

Concluding, he described Germany as a natural partner in the Maldives' development journey.
