Court fines man involved in accident MVR 115,200

Criminal Court has yesterday sentenced a man to pay fines of MVR 115,200 on charges of causing injury in relation to a dangerous accident that occurred seven years ago.

Criminal Court has yesterday sentenced a man to pay fines of MVR 115,200 on charges of causing injury in relation to a dangerous accident that occurred seven years ago.

Ali Mohamed of Rasreethi, HDh. Kulhudhuffushi was convicted of causing injury. 

He was charged for his involvement in an accident that occurred on Boduthakurufaanu Magu, Male' on June 26, 2018. 

In the accident, he had been speeding on his motorcycle near the Industrial Zone when he crashed into another motorcycle, causing serious injury to the other motorist and his passenger. The accident victim was Ibrahim Waseem of Asseyri, Sh. Maroshi, who sustained serious head injuries including a fracture in his skull, the verdict states. 

Ali Mohamed entered a plea bargain with the State. 

He was initially sentenced to prison for 1 year, 7 months and 6 days.

Under the plea bargain, the sentence was commuted to a fine of MVR 115,200, which is to be paid to MIRA within 24 days of the verdict. 

The accident caused serious injuries to Waseem and his brother. Waseem was treated in the Intensive Care Unit as well.
