Chief Justice Abdul Ghanee Mohamed has stated that it is important to create a special agency that has legal backing to enforce judicial court rulings.
While speaking at the opening ceremony of the Judicial Year 2026, the Chief Justice said that the civil justice system is a very extensive system, and that rights are guaranteed to the respective owner, with social order being established due to court rulings.
"There are many judicial court rulings and sentences daily within the system," said the Chief Justice.
He went on to say that a stable legal mechanism that can be enforced from within or outside the courthouse is needed for the community regarding the sentences handed down by judges in their cases.
With a legal framework that describes the process in enforcing such sentences, a special agency that has legal backing needs to be created today, said the Chief Justice.
The procedural work in the enforcement of sentences is currently being done by a division within the Civil Court.
"The only way court sentences will show results is by the sentences being enforced as it was handed down. Then we can establish social order. Trust from commercial banks and investors will increase," as per the Chief Justice.
As a result, the Chief Justice said that this would protect the wives, children, husbands and those of old age from the negative actions of family disputes.
According to the Chief Justice, the power of the sentences from courts will be seen, with the characteristics and dignity of courts being seen by Maldivian society.
And so, the Chief Justice said that it is a hopeful dream from the Maldivian courthouse.
