Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has announced that Barubari Mosque in Male' will be officially opened from Asr prayers next Monday.

The mosque has a 1,400-person capacity across its three floors.

Alisaafu company was contracted to construct the three storey mosque after demolishing the existing structure on the corner of Majeedhee Magu-Rahdhebai Magu in December 2024.

Shaheem stated that the government aims to redevelop old mosques in Male' to modern structures.

Under these efforts, construction of Vilimale's Masjid Al-Salam and Male's Zikura Mosque will commence after Ramadan, he said.

He said that the projects have been postponed till after Ramadan to avoid causing inconvenience to the public.

The minister stated that sponsors have been confirmed to modernize both these mosques. After these, Afeefuhdeen Mosque in Henveiru will be the only old mosque in Male', he said, assuring that this, too, will see a sponsor obtained.

Work is also ongoing on Boduge Mosque in Maafannu. Shaheem asserted that this project will see completion by Ramadan next year.
