President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has departed for Germany on an official visit from 9 to 13 February 2026, following an invitation from German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
During the visit, President Muizzu is scheduled to hold high-level official talks with President Steinmeier and senior members of the German government.
A business forum bringing together delegates from both countries will also be held to explore opportunities for bilateral cooperation.
As part of the visit, President Muizzu will visit Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where he will speak on the Maldives’ experience in climate change adaptation.
He is also scheduled to address the German Council on Foreign Relations, where he will present the Maldives’ perspective on the role of the ocean in foreign policy.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany. Formal diplomatic ties between the two countries were established on 5 July 1966.
