MTCC has stated that the second phase of the government's efforts in re-asphalting Boduthakurufaanu Magu to modernize the road will begin this week.
Construction for the first segment, situated between the Fish Market and the Presidential Jetty, involved the reclamation of part of the lagoon to expand the road to four lanes, accompanied by laying of new asphalt. Construction for this section began in August 2025, with Segment 1 of the extensive ring road development project being completed and opened for use on 9th December.
The following phase, Phase 2, began the very next day and will encompass the southern side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, stretching from the Fish Market to the North Harbor's end, with plans for further widening and asphalting.
MTCC shared the latest developments regarding the project last night, with work on the sub-base for the second phase's area having begun.

As per MTCC, ABC laying and asphalt work will begin this week. They also said the additional work being done in that area will end this week, with the installation of signboards and light posts to end this week as well.
The company said that with the modernizing of the road, it will ease travel for motorists and pedestrians alike.
The entire ring road project is funded by the state budget, with an allocation of MVR 144 million. MTCC is contracted to complete the full project within 455 days.
The Construction Ministry has stated that the current segment will be completed before Ramadan or by 13th February. As per the calendar, Ramadan is set to start on 18th February.
Construction Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has said previously that the market area experiences high traffic and the expansion of the road to four lanes will significantly ease congestion..
