PNC Campaign Manager and Inguraidhoo MP Ibrahim Falah stated last night that the party has gained 7 percent of the local council seats even without the need for an election.

During PNC's Addu campaign launch for the Local Council Election which is set to take place on 4th April, Falah said that the ruling PNC party has achieved a major success even before the vote and that even now they have around 7 percent of the seats.

Both the Local Council and Women's Development Committee Elections will be electing 681 members each.

Under PNC's ticket, 665 candidates will be running for the Local Council seats, with 658 candidates running for the Women's Development Committee.

"By the grace of God, we have already won a number of seats even without the election. We already have around 7 percent of the seats. And so, we the PNC party and the President now realize the support we have from Maldivian citizens," said Falah.

Candidates have until this coming Thursday to nominate names, with Falah stating that PNC will claim 10 percent of the seats without the election.

Falah went on to say that even candidates running under the opposition MDP's ticket do not have the interest to move forward with their party. Due to that, this includes an unsatisfactory air around MDP's policies and how MDP's leaders act, said Falah.

Falah also said that the frame of mind from both PNC and MDP are quite different.

Continuing his speech, Falah said that there has not been a mayor with PNC's ideology who has been elected as Mayor of Addu since the council elections have been held for the last 15 years and that there has been negligence surrounding the development of the city.

And so, Falah requested PNC candidates be elected so that projects at cities and islands can move forward at a breakneck speed.

"If councils have a PNC majority, we will see a level of development that has never been seen before in Maldives in five years," said Falah.
