The government has awarded the project to develop a 360 degree chart of the Maldives to Gecko Digital of Indonesia.

Speaking to reporters after signing the agreement with Gecko Digital on Tuesday, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC)’s acting managing director Haris Mohamed stated that the 360 chart project falls under the government’s efforts to take promotions of the Maldives to another level.

He revealed that Gecko Digital would create the 360 application free of charge, and that it would be completed within a year.

“[The Maldives] is the first destination of which such a map is being created. It’s a 360 degree video map of virtual reality quality,” announced Haris.

The finished digital map is to be released on MMPRC’s Visit Maldives website. The company stated that a major area of the map would be made available by March 2018.

Haris added that teams from Gecko Digital would visit all the islands of the Maldives to take photographs and videos to create the chart.
