President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced today that the government has arranged employment for the youths who were not selected for the Maldives National Service training, an initiative he introduced to build disciplined and service-oriented youth.

In this year’s Presidential Address delivered to the People’s Majlis, the President stated that among those who graduated from the initial program, those not selected for further training have been provided with jobs in the institutions where they expressed interest in working.

President Muizzu also noted that since 38 of these youths wished to work in the private sector, they were given that opportunity and released.

The institutions where employment has been arranged include:

  • MNDF: 171 youths
  • MNDF Auxiliary Firemen: 7 youths
  • Aviation and Port Security Command: 32 youths
  • Maldives Police Service: 32 youths
  • Immigration: 5 youths
  • MACL: 3 youths

The President stated that it is the responsibility of the state to save youth and children from drugs, violence, gang crimes, and other harmful behaviors, and to shape them into productive and useful individuals.

Highlighting this as a specific responsibility of the government, he said that the most significant priority must be the upbringing and discipline of the youth.

"Tomorrow, this beloved nation will journey in the direction aimed by today’s youth. By the energy of those youths. Therefore, bringing an end to the years of neglect toward the younger generation, 344 youths trained under the first batch of the Maldives National Service training program, a special effort started by this government to build a robust young generation, graduated on December 28th," President Muizzu said.

He further mentioned that among them, 65 selected youths began their technical training for the National Service on the 15th of last month at the Technical and Vocational Education Centre in B. Kihaadhoo.

Additionally, noting that 350 youths from the second batch departed for Maafilaafushi on January 24th for their training, the President stated that the government’s target is for an additional 1,000 youths to complete these training within this year.
