Lowest number of registrations in Cancer Registry last year, yet still over 100

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) stated tonight that while more than 100 people were newly registered in the Cancer Registry last year, this marks the year with the lowest number of registrations since record-keeping began.

In a social media post related to World Cancer Day observed tomorrow, HPA noted that 1,106 people have been included in the Cancer Registry from 2020 until the end of last year. While last year saw the lowest registration numbers, the total was 111.

The six-year details of the National Cancer Registry are as follows:

  • 2020: 137 people
  • 2021: 208 people
  • 2022: 244 people
  • 2023: 211 people
  • 2024: 195 people
  • 2025: 111 people

According to information shared by HPA last year, 1,617 people were registered in the Cancer Registry.

However, there are currently a total of 1,964 people on the list so far this year. This is an increase of 347 people within one year. However, there are currently a total of 1,964 people on the list.

The agency stated that 57 percent of the Cancer Registry consists of women. Looking at the registry, the most common types among men are lung, prostate, colorectal, stomach, and liver cancers. Among women, the most common are breast, colorectal, lung, cervical, and thyroid cancers.
