52 local agricultural farmers have left to Sri Lanka to participate in an agricultural training program.

This is the first international training program opened publicly to agricultural workers and allowing such a large number of participants.

The program is conducted by Maldives Agribusiness Program (MAP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

The ministry said that this training, titled the 'Advanced Horticulture Exposure Training Program', will be held from today until February 13. The training will provide insights into modern greenhouse farming and hands-on experience, the ministry said.

Participants in this training are those that have completed MAP's Lead Farmer trainings and those that under the farmers' grants have begun greenhouse farming, the ministry said.

Additional trainings were also conducted for agricultural farmers under the MAP project. Under this, greenhouses were installed in 12 islands, and eco-friendly farming and sustainable agriculture was introduced.

The ministry said that all costs of the training will be borne under the project's free grant.
