Twenty one people have been provided with temporary shelter following a fire that broke out in a warehouse in Hulhumale' last night.

According to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the fire occurred in a warehouse located on the ground floor of a six-storey residence at Lot No. 11154 on Chanbeylee 5, Hulhumale'.

NDMA said the building’s electrical panel was damaged in the fire. As a result, 21 residents from two apartments in the building were relocated to temporary shelters, where they were also provided with food.

The affected apartments were occupied by Maldivian families.

The cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed.

Photographs released by Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) show extensive damage to the warehouse, which was burned beyond use.

The incident comes just days after another fire broke out last Friday in an air conditioning outdoor unit at Hiyaa Tower 5 in Hulhumale' Phase 2. NDMA provided temporary shelter to 85 people affected by that incident.
