Hiyaa Tower 5 evacuated after fire incident

Following a fire incident, residents have been evacuated out of Hiyaa Tower 5 in Hulhumale' Phase 2. 

MNDF confirmed the incident, but did not disclose any further information. 

It has been reported that the fire originated in the outdoor unit of an air conditioner. However, it remains unclear whether the fire spread to the building. The extent of the damage caused is also not known as of yet. 

Footage of the incident shows smoke billowing out of the top of the building. It is not known in which floor the fire broke out. People in the area have reported that something was on fire and burning in the basement of the tower. 

While the fire in the basement was alight, there were a large number of motorcycles parked there. 

The incident occurred at sunset today, with MNDF quickly putting out the blaze. 

Fire incidents have occurred periodically at the Hiyaa Towers. Residents have voiced concerns that the Hiyaa Towers, home to thousands of families, lacks adequate fire safety measures.
