Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) National Council member Fathimath Zahiyya (Zaya) has been summoned to police tomorrow to provide a statement in the case where she is accused of issuing threats to Police on social media.
A summons chit issued by Police to Zaya states she is being called for questioning and to provide a statement regarding a case in which a Facebook account named 'Zaya Fathimath' allegedly threatened Police on the night of October 4, 2025.
The chit asks Zaya to be present at the Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building at 2pm tomorrow.
While Police are investigating this case against Zaya, she is a candidate in the running for the North Hulhumale' constituency seat on an MDP ticket in the upcoming Local Council Elections.
In relation to the investigation, Police previously seized Zaya's phone. She was also summoned and questioned previously.
In the post in question, Zaya had shared a post on Facebook saying, "In preparation for the 17th of next month, we are preparing pepper spray from Kan'doodhoo chili. You spray, we spray."
This referred to the October 17, 2025 protest organized by MDP last year.
Police released Zaya's phone after holding it for a week.
