The Maldives' first trained meteorological observer has retired after 47 years of service.
The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) shared that Ali Shareef began his career as a Meteorological Observer in 1978. The MET Office expressed gratitude for his 47 years of dedicated service, noting his significant contributions to the institution.
Following his training, Ali Shareef provided forecasts and alerts on wind and sea weather conditions.
The MET Office highlighted that during Ali Shareef's tenure, strong ties were built with regional and international meteorological agencies, leading to notable advancements for the service.
Ali Shareef also represented Maldives at the Regional Integrated Multi Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia.
At the time of his retirement, Ali Shareef was serving as Deputy Director General of the service.
The government also presented him with the National Award in July, 2024 in recognition of his long period of service to the State.
