The government has yesterday begun sending canned tuna cases to islands for distribution as Ramadan gifts from the government.

According to an publication from Local Government Ministry on 'Sarukaaru Habaru' [Government News], STO is handling the transfer of canned tuna cases to islands.

Speaking in a program on State radio 'Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu', State Minister Yoosuf Abdul Ghafoor stated that the cases are being shipped out since yesterday. Efforts will ramp up tomorrow, he said.

Distribution to households within islands will be managed by their respective councils.

Distribution in the Male' region also commenced last Saturday.

The ministry estimates that distribution in the Male' area will be completed by February 11.

For collection, those in the Male' area can take tokens through roadhahadhiya.mv.

For Ramadan last year, the government distributed 118,673 canned tuna cases. This includes 56,918 households in the Male' area, and 60,755 across the atolls.
