Development of the new school, Shaheed Ali School, in Hulhumale' Phase 2 built by RCC on a contractor finance basis has been completed and handed over to the government.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu laid the foundation for the school in December 2023. Two years from then, the school has been fully developed, and made operational today at the start of the new academic year.
The school was developed for MVR 247 million on a contractor finance basis by RCC. The government will need to pay the cost of the building from February 1 onwards. As per the agreement, payment needs to be completed within five years.
Included in the project value is procurement of all necessary facilities and resources for the school, including ACs, lifts, furniture, and TV screens.
Unlike other schools in the Male' area, Shaheed Ali School is also equipped with an auditorium and other modern facilities.
The school, named after national hero Ali Rasgefaanu, was officially inaugurated today by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu and RCC Chairman Mohamed Nazim also attended the ceremony.
Speaking to media about final preparations to open the school, Minister Shafeeu said that over 1,950 students have been enrolled in the school.
The school, run in two sessions, employs 230 teachers, according to the minister.
The minister emphasized that Shaheed Ali School is now recognized as the most modern educational facility in the Male' area, noting that all preparations have been finalized to ensure a smooth start to the academic year today.
Shaheed Ali School is the first school developed by this administration in the Male' region.
RCC was initially contracted to develop the school on June 27, 2021. The project remained delayed for various reasons until this administration, soon after assuming office, prioritized the project, a government official said.
Shaheed Ali School will be teaching Grades 1 through 10, and has 54 classrooms designed to cater to 32 students each.
The school features a 400-seat auditorium, a library, a computer lab, three chemistry laboratories, as well as both indoor and outdoor halls. The building is also equipped with three elevators, each accommodating up to 20 students.
