As the new academic year begins today, Ahmadhiyya International School (AIS) has changed to single sessions.
AIS Principal Mohamed Rasheed stated that classes will now be conducted in a single session, a change from their previous two-session practice.
Although preschool classes are held at different times, all students from Grades 1 to 12 will now be attending school from 6:45 am to 3pm, Rasheed said.
AIS, one of the most sought-after schools in Male', enrolls over 2000 students. Space constraints have long been a concern, but the school has now added a new building on its grounds.
Although the full building is not yet in use, some of the new classrooms will be used from today onwards, Rasheed said. The new building is set to be officially opened next month.
Principal Rasheed said that the school currently has more than the strictly necessary amount of teachers and resources to conduct single session lessons. The school employs over a hundred teachers.
To address space constraints at AIS, the previous administration provided the school with land in Hulhumale' to develop a new school building.
This land, near Central Park, is 43,000sqft, four times the size of the present school.
