The Prosecutor General’s Office has filed five charges against Shuaib Abdulla, the former Health and Physical Education teacher at M. Atoll School, in a case involving the alleged sexual abuse of two students.
According to the PG Office, Shuaib Abdulla, of Saadhage, M. Kolhufushi, is accused of touching two of his students with sexual intent and showing them videos containing pornographic material.
The charges filed against him at the Kolhufushi Magistrate Court on the 21st of this month include:
- Two counts of committing a sexual act with a child while in a position of trust.
- Two counts of compelling a child to watch a sexual act while in a position of trust.
- One count of possession of pornographic material in the Maldives.
The offenses of committing a sexual act with a child and compelling a child to watch a sexual act while in a position of trust carry prison sentences ranging from 15 to 18 years.
Additionally, the possession of pornographic material is an offense punishable by one month and six days in prison.
"...If these charges are proven, Shuaib Abdulla will face a minimum prison sentence of 60 years, one month, and six days," the PG Office stated.
As it is a legal offense to disclose any information that may identify victims in cases of child sexual abuse, relevant authorities have not released further details regarding this case.
