A total of 1,616 people have applied for flats and land within the first week of the government’s Family Housing Scheme, the Ministry of Housing said today.
According to statistics released by the ministry, 1,160 applications were submitted for flats, while 456 applications were submitted for land during the period.
The ministry also said that 7,605 applications are currently in the draft stage.
Under the scheme, the government has opened applications for 7,900 flats and 15,000 land plots, each measuring 1,250 square feet.
According to the regulations governing the allocation of flats and land, the primary eligibility criteria apply to residents of Male' and individuals who have lived in Male' for at least 15 years.
The government has allocated:
- 4,000 flats for Male' residents
- 1,500 flats for non residents who have lived in Male' for a period of 15 years
- 2,400 flats for special categories
For land allocation:
10,000 plots are reserved for Male' City residents, including:
- 7,000 plots for those registered as residents of a Male' household from birth
- 1,000 plots for those listed in the Male' Register
- 2,000 plots for those later registered as residents of a Male' household
- 3,000 plots are allocated for residents of other islands currently living in Male'.
- 500 plots are allocated for individuals deprived of land due to non inheritance of parents or grandparents property
- 1,500 plots are allocated for applicants seeking land swaps due to homes located on narrow streets
