Distribution of tuna can cases, given to households as Ramadan gifts by the government, began last night in the Male' area.

The government distributed tuna can cases to households for Ramadan last year as well. While this year's distribution began last night, many residents have taken tokens now.

Local Government Minister Adam Shareef token numbers for collection last night were issued to 4,805 households in the Male' area. 

The minister further said that efforts are being undertaken to transport the tuna can cases to the atolls for distribution. He estimates that delivery will be completed by the end of the week. 

In the Male' area, distribution is from 8pm to 11pm every day except Fridays. The government is aiming to complete distribution by February 11. 

This year, too, cases of 48 tuna cans are being gifted. 

There are 15 distribution centres in the Male' area. This includes 8 centres in Male', 1 centre in Vilimale', and 6 centres in Hulhumale'.

Last year, the government distributed 118,673 tuna can cases. This includes 56,918 in the Male' area, and 60,755 across the atolls.
