President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that Moosa Ali Jaleel, running for the post of mayor on the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) ticket is his first choice for mayor. He stated that Jaleel agreed to run for the post in response to a direct request from him.
Speaking at PNC's campaign event last night, the President said that he had urged Jaleel to run for the post of Male' Mayor because he has confidence that Jaleel will work with integrity and energy to support efforts to fulfil pledges made to Male' citizens.
"He bears no stains on his reputation. He is an energetic, patriotic person that the nation has pride in. That is why I requested him to contest. I sincerely thank him for accepting it," the President said.

The President asserted that peace has now been established in the country, and urged the public not to elect councilors to muddy things in islands at the local level.
"Allowing for such things to happen is not something any citizen will desire. Elect the candidates running with us to avoid creating an opportunity for unrest, and to forward with the work this administration is doing with the people."
The President stated that if PNC candidates are elected in the April 4 Local Council Elections, the government will find it easy to accomplish their work. He stated that persons who will obstruct this work should not be elected to councils.

He called on the public to avoid giving the opportunity to persons who will obstruct development, and to elect PNC candidates instead.
"This government is one with a national ideology, which loves the nation. I call on you to campaign in this vein. God willing, we will achieve success," the President said.
