The Maldives Blood Service (MBS) has requested as many people as possible to donate blood due to a significant shortage in the current blood supply.
In a post made today, the Blood Service stated that it has become very difficult to obtain blood at this time.
An official from MBS told Mihaaru News that the number of blood donors has significantly decreased.
The official stated, "We shared the post because children are struggling due to the lack of donors. All types of blood are needed."
According to the post released by MBS today, the most needed blood types are:
- A Positive
- O Positive
- O Negative
- B Positive
- B Negative
- AB Positive
Blood donations can be made every week from Sunday to Thursday, between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Those who wish to donate can go to Orange Hiyaa in Hulhumalé during these hours.
However, blood can only be donated by individuals who are at least 18 years of age and weigh more than 45 kg.
The Blood Service requests that donors complete at least six hours of sleep before coming to donate and ensure they have eaten a meal one hour prior to donating.
