The Education Ministry has announced that during the upcoming Ramadan, schools will be open only in the first week.
The ministry published the Academic Calendar for the year yesterday. The academic year is set to start on Tuesday, January 27. Government holidays, school operating days, and other holidays for students and teachers are marked on this calendar.
Some key dates on the Academic Calendar
- January 27 - Start of the academic year
- February 18 - First day of Ramadan
- February 19 - schools closed
- February 22 to 26 - classes will be held
- After the next weekend, March 1-8: Professional Development Day
- March 9 to 22 (last ten days of Ramadan and Eid): Government holidays
- March 23 - Schools reopen
As per the calendar, first of Ramadan falls on February 18 this year.
According to the calendar, schools will operate for a month from opening on Tuesday until they close during Ramadan. The last week of schools being open, February 22 to 26, is the first week of Ramadan.
Following the weekend after this, the Academic Calendar states teachers' Professional Development Day will be held, this time extending from March 1 to March 8. Students are not required to attend school during this time.
March 9 marks the beginning of the last third of Ramadan. As these ten days are government holidays, schools will also remain closed.
As per the calendar, Fitr Eid falls on March 20.
Schools are set to reopen after Ramadan on March 23.
