Aminath Hassan (Ainthu Miss), a long serving Dhivehi teacher at Aminiya School, has passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer.

She passed away this morning at IGMH, aged 58. Ainthu Miss had been undergoing treatment for cancer for the past one and a half years.

Ainthu Miss dedicated 34 years of her life to teaching Dhivehi, most of them at Aminiya School, where she began her career immediately after completing her education.

Deputy Principal of Aminiya School Fathimath Hilmy said Ainthu Miss was deeply committed to education and personal growth.

“She started working at Aminiya right after finishing school. Later, she paused her teaching to pursue her degree, returning once she had completed her studies. She was an exceptionally kind and gentle person,” Hilmy said.

In addition to her teaching career, Ainthu Miss served as a member of the Media Council and was appointed to the Asset Recovery Commission in 2018. Following the dissolution of the commission, she temporarily joined Majeedhiyya School before returning to Aminiya when a position became available.

She spent 23 years teaching at Aminiya School in total, serving not only as a subject teacher but also as a leading teacher.

“She was friendly with everyone, approachable and warm. She had a special bond with students... humorous, caring and deeply respected. That relationship is what stood out most,” Hilmy said.

“She was not only a loss to Aminiya School, but to the entire country. Many generations of students were taught Dhivehi by Ainthu Miss. One of the pillars of Aminiya has been lost.”

Ainthu Miss is survived by her husband and daughter.
