President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated today that those who are as determined as Ali Rasgefaanu will uphold the honor and sanctity of every Maldivian generation.
In celebration of Martyr's Day (Shaheedhunge Dhuvas), President Muizzu took to social media and said that today marks 482 years where Ali Rasgefaanu (King Sultan Ali IV) sacrificed himself while protecting Maldives during jihad (battle).
President Muizzu said the courage and unbreakable spirit of the national heroes who went out to fight against attackers to their last breath on the 1st of Shauban in the Islamic Calendar, Hijri year 965 will always live on.
The President said he gratefully renews the memory of the brave youth who fought and martyred themselves for their country while conducting their national duties.
"There will hopefully be those who are as strong in determination as Ali Rasgefaanu that will uphold the courage and sanctity of future Maldivian generations," said President Muizzu.
"The freedom of Maldives will be maintained by the grace of Allah."
The 1st of Shauban in the Islamic Calendar is marked annually as the Martyr's Day. This is the day when, 480 years ago, Ali Rasgefaanu was martyred by the Portuguese in a battle he fought to protect the Maldives' religion and independence. The day has been officially commemorated for 48 years today.
