The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has appealed today for the re-registration of work sites where foreign employees are working if the associated project durations have expired.
In an announcement, the ministry stated that efforts are underway to establish a robust system for managing expatriates and their required permits.
The ministry noted that starting tomorrow, any work sites registered on a project basis for bringing in foreign labor that show as expired on the Expat System will have their status changed to "Pending Site Clearance."
Additionally, registered work sites that have not utilized a quota for over a year will be changed to "In-active" status starting next Sunday.
Therefore, the ministry has urged employers to renew the necessary documentation and update work site details through the Expat System to reactivate expired sites.
The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, along with Maldives Immigration and other agencies under its purview, is conducting extensive work to resolve the issue of undocumented foreigners in the Maldives.
As part of these efforts, following a major program to collect biometrics from all foreigners in the country, the government has now decided to deport those who have failed to provide their information.
According to the latest data released by the ministry, the biometrics of 181,093 foreigners have been updated so far.
