The government yesterday opened applications for flats and land plots under their first housing scheme for the Male' area. In the initial 24 hours, over 500 applications have been submitted, the Housing Ministry revealed today.
Data shared by the ministry shows that 399 applications for flats and 119 applications for land plots have been submitted. An additional 3836 applications are seen to be at the drafting stage, the ministry said.
Applications for this housing scheme can be submitted via the Boahiyaavahikan Portal.
The scheme, 'Aailee Boahiyaavahikan' (Family Housing), will be accepting applications for flats until 11:59 pm on April 17, and applications for land plots until 11:59pm on March 4.
The policy on issuing flats state that registered Male' residents, and persons residing in Male' for a minimum of 15 consecutive years are eligible to apply.
Flats
- Total 7,900 flats to be issued
- 4000 flats reserved for registered Male' residents
- 1,500 flats reserved for people registered elsewhere but residing in Male'
- The remaining 2,400 flats are reserved for special categories. This includes MNDF and Police personnel, State institution personnel, taxi drivers, tourism sector personnel, fishermen, youth, single parents and so on
Land plots
- Total 15,000 land plots, each 1,250sqft in size
- 10,000 land plots reserved for registered Male' residents
- 7,000 land plots reserved for persons registered to Male' addresses from birth
- 1,000 land plots reserved for persons on the Male' register
- 2,000 land plots reserved for persons registered to a Male' address later in life
- 3,000 land plots reserved for residents of other islands residing in Male'
- 500 land plots reserved for persons denied inherited land from parents due to inheritance issues
- 1,500 land plots reserved for those owning land in narrow streets of Male', preventing them from developing their land, to be issued under a land exchange program
Housing Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib stated yesterday that flats and land plots under this scheme will be handed over within this term.
Solving the housing crisis is one of the key pledges of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
